A dog is a wonderful friend. They run around and play with you; support you and comfort you—they are always there for you. And perhaps most importantly their love and affection is almost completely unconditional. All they ask for in return is a little bit of food, a place to sleep, and some affection—and for that they give support and love even when you’re feeling down. My family got Murphy when I was 9 years old. He was there for me when I was going through my most difficult times, when friends seemed scarce, and family was in conflict. If I was depressed he would come up and nudge me, comfort me. If he felt I had slept too long he would come and urge me to get up. He was all you could ask for and more: intelligent, loyal, playful, and friendly. He was my friend and my companion. And now….he is gone from this plane of existence. But I will always remember him and treasure those memories til the day I die. And perhaps, just perhaps, we will meet again someday.
Until then
Goodbye, my friend, goodbye. Godspeed.
