My favorite author Anne McCaffrey has died. I cannot even begin to explain how much her Dragonriders of Pern series has influenced my life. I was introduced to Pern while in mid to late elementary school and I instantly fell in love with the series. The Dragonriders of Pern gave me comfort in a time when comfort was scarce, and in subsequent years has guided me and given me more inspiration than any other series (including Star Wars and Star Trek both of which I’m infamously a fan of). I will treasure Anne’s works and share them with my children, just as my Mom did with me. I would like to close this post with a series of quotes that I feel are apt for this occasion most of them by Anne McCaffery but the final one being a quote from the Christian Bible that she used in All The Weyrs of Pern upon the death of a major character and which I find solace in upon her death.
“All things come to pass in the fullness of time”–Masterharper Robinton, in The White Dragon.
“When bad fortune occurs, the unresourceful, unimaginative man looks about him to attach the blame to someone else; the resolute accepts misfortune and endeavors to survive, mature, and improve because of it.”–Masterhealer Capiam, in Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
“Grief can be exhibited in many ways”–Masterhealer Capiam, in Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
“Nothing will change yesterday. So now you must deal with today”–Orlith, in Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
“We all need to think positively”–Sean Connell, in Dragonsdawn
“Sudden grief is always a shock”–Paul Benden, in Dragonsdawn
“For everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under heaven”–Ecclesiastes 3:1
