Why I Love Halloween!

Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine, and yet, the older I get the more I realize how many people aren’t interested at all in it–or even are actively against it.

So I thought I’d share why Halloween means so much to me and those like me. My hope is that by doing so, you may see the benefits of the celebration, and not condemn it quite so quickly.

Firstly, as a nerd and an outcast, Halloween was one holiday where I didn’t stand out as much. From those who follow “fringe” faiths like Wicca, to the neurodiverse to the nerdy and geeky and every marginalized group in between, Halloween provides a refuge where outcasts can finally belong, at least for a time.

Secondly, Halloween provides a recognition and celebration of magic, of mystery, of things beyond sight and just outside of our normal senses. For one who wanted to keep magic and mystery alive, Halloween was always a deeply inspiring and lovely holiday.

So remember that Halloween may not seem important to you, but it does provide a haven for outcasts and dreamers, weirdos and nerds, and helps us to keep magic and mystery alive.
