Read, Watch, Listen – July 2024 Roundup

Note: This is the first in a new (roughly) monthly series of posts I’m planning that will provide a quick roundup of some content I’ve checked out in the past month so you can decide whether to check it out too!

Read

Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire by Chris Kempshall: Written from an in-universe perspective; respectable length; entertaining and insightful.

Indecent Theology: Theological Perversions in Sex, Gender and Politics by Marcella Althaus-Reed: An excellent theological read on the importance of being aware of one’s sexual context when doing theology and of intentionally bringing one’s sexuality to the work of theology. Not an easy read; way ahead of its time.

Watch

Deadpool and Wolverine (film): An excellent and entertaining addition to the Fox-MCU franchise. Definitely a fun ride.

Star Wars: Acolyte (Disney+ TV show): A solid addition to the Star Wars franchise. Despite the hype, it was neither great nor terrible, just passable. Some excellent fight choreography and fun Easter eggs, but the story itself didn’t necessarily need to be told.

Star Trek: Prodigy Season Two: An excellent sequel with lots of great cameos and a true sequel to both Season One of Prodigy and the storylines of Voyager & TNG. Give it a watch!
