Hogg’s Chen Tai Chi Praxeum

Welcome to Hogg’s Chen Tai Chi Praxeum! I have a passion for sharing my knowledge of taijiquan with others. Due to my life experience, I believe in the importance of cultivating physical literacy and that taijiquan is particularly well-suited to doing so.

I began teaching taijiquan workshops in fall 2025 and am continuing to gain experience as an aspiring instructor. If you take a workshop or lesson with me and decide you would like to learn from a more experienced instructor, I am happy to connect you with my instructors.

About Taijiquan

Tai chi (taijiquan) is an internal style martial art (neijia) which aims to embody the dynamic balance of yin and yang energies, and to cultivate chi (qi). Chen style taijiquan is distinguished by its spiraling movements called “silk-reeling” (chansijin), and its alternating of slow, smooth motions with fast, explosive strikes (fajin).

My Taijiquan Experience

I began my tai chi practice with the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada in 2004. Since 2015, I have been studying Chen style taijiquan from the lineage of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei with James Saper of East Mountain Internal Arts. I receive additional instruction from Master Jack Yan of TNT Kung Fu and have attended workshops to deepen my knowledge led by Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei.
