Hogg’s Chen Tai Chi Praxeum

Welcome! Hogg’s Chen Tai Chi Praxeum provides opportunities to learn and to practice Chen style tai chi (taijiquan).

About Taijiquan

Tai chi (taijiquan) is an internal style martial art (neijia) which aims to embody the dynamic balance of yin and yang energies, and to cultivate chi (qi). Chen style taijiquan is distinguished by its spiraling movements called “silk-reeling” (chansijin), and its alternating of slow, smooth motions with fast, explosive strikes (fajin).

My Taijiquan Experience

I have been practitioner of tai chi in general since 2004, and of Chen style taijiquan practice in particular since 2015. My primary instructor in Chen style taijiquan is James Saper of East Mountain Internal Arts. My other taijiquan instructors have included the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Canada, Master Jack Yan of TNT Kung Fu, and Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei.

I have a passion for sharing my knowledge of taijiquan with others. I firmly believe in the importance of cultivating physical literacy and that taijiquan is particularly well-suited to doing so.
