Poem: The Wait

The wait is long
The hunger grows
Divorcing my mind
From my body
I can feel
The devouring beast
Inside me
Waiting to be
Set free
I sit and talk
I read and the walk
Through the stretching hours
Around the world
Others wait for meals
I and those with me
Know the wait will end
Before we sleep forever
The others know this not
For many will never again
See the light of the day
The wait is long
The Famine goes on
