Poem: Pass On

The legacy is passed
A torch, hand to hand
Our parents stand ready
To give rest to the burden
They have carried so long
Our brothers and sisters
Stand poised to shoulder
The burden they have
Been trained to assume
We are rising from a deep crouch
Starting to advance in our training
The ones beneath us
Are starting their training
Each generation faces adversity
Yet all the generations
Think the others won’t
Be able to handle
The harsh truths
We must remind ourselves
That we are all different
And in that difference
We are the same
