Poem: Right Hand Man

Some yearn to lead
To inspire hope and fear
To wield the double-edged
Sword of responsibility
Others desire to follow
To do what they are told
To act as extension of will
I wish to follow middle ground
To have the option of choice
To serve as advisor
Confident and right-hand man
I want
To back the leader
If in the right
To offer alternatives
If undecided
To call
If in the wrong
Neither spotlight
Nor shadow
But a little bit
Of each
Neither leader
Nor follower
But a little bit
Of both
