Poem: Difficult Destiny

I will never taste a woman’s lips
Never relish in a lover’s embrace
I may be friend and brother
Father and son
Uncle and mentor
But I will never be a lover
I feel this truth
Deep in my bones
I know it is my destiny
I have always known
That I must follow
My own path
I did not know
The burden would be
So hard to bear
Though my heart aches
And tears well in my eyes
I accept my fate
With the knowledge
That it is my purpose
