Poem: Passing of Time

They stand
The majestic giants
Figures from my childhood
A constant presence in my life

They’ve been with me
All my life
Helping me, guiding me
Making me realise my full potential

They are fading away
Taking my sense of security
To the grave and beyond

It gets worse
As the ones who
Look up to me
Go through the first rocks
Blocking their path

I can’t do anything
I can’t help them
I’m overwhelmed
I feel sad

All I can do
Is carry on
I won’t give up!

This must be
The true meaning of life
Going through the journey
Never giving up

Making the choices
That you feel are right
Staying strong no matter what

I just hope
When the time comes
I can be
As strong as they are now
