Poem: Comfort From On High

I collapsed
Upon my cot
Beaten, battered, bruised
Exhausted and wearied
Whole soul tired
“Rest, my child,”
She said to me
“You carry a heavy load
The weight of your fears
Frustrations and failings
The heaviest of all
Is the code you hold
And raise above all else
Ease your heart, my son
You do not walk alone
I am with you always
To the end of days
Know that when you fall
The key is to rise again
So, my child dear,
Relax your broken body
And weary soul
I shall guide your dreams to peace”
And as I lay upon my cot
She caressed my heart
Kissed my soul
Love rose up around me
Deep and everlasting
Swelling within me
The desire to give voice and sing
To shout with joy that I was found
