Poem: Grandfather Hogg

From dust Man was made
To dust he shall return
My grandfather came
From County Armagh
In North of Ireland
A land where apple orchards grow
Where Saint Patrick and Brian Boru
Made nests for a time
He came to the new world
Found love and made home
And Death claimed him
Before life found me
Though I never knew that great man
His blood flows thick in my veins
And the call of Ireland
Resonates to the tune of my soul
As his body returned to dust
So shall his blood
Return to his homeland
The land of my forebears
Oh, the lessons I shall learn
From that old land!
And I look forward to when
I meet that old man
