Poem: When Darkness Closes In

When all the forces of darkness
Are arrayed against you
When howls and screams
Calling for blood
Reach your ears
When blinding fog
Clouds your vision
There’s only one thing left to do
When bonds stretch and break
Your body is beaten and bruised
Your heart is crushed
In iron grip
Your spirit cries out in terror
You feel you can’t go on
There’s only one thing left to do
Stand up
Speak out
Face it all head on
Though pain and fear
Darkness and despair
Grip you from all sides
Muster your will
Do what you know you must
Fight to your last breath
While there is life
There is light
One spark can hold back the dark
With determination
One spark can become a roaring flame
