Poem: Fear

Fear is of the dark
It wraps its dark embrace
Around my heart
And bars the way
To what I desire most
I build barriers to keep fear out
It is insidious and seductive
The barriers crack
And fear rushes in
My life’s goal
Has been to let go my fear
Remove its power over me
Oh, how long I have to go
Yet there will come a day
When fear has no say
I will learn
To love and laugh
Filled with joy
All I can do for now
Is walk on despite my fear
To be caught in a storm
That weathers my skin
And toys with me
Like a leaf in the wind
And in that chaos
To find my balance
To shine like a light in the dark
To pick myself up when I fall
To guide others through the storm
This I most solemnly swear
I will fight my fear
Overcome it through love and laughter
Every moment that I can
And one day soon
I will do what fear most fears
And let love most dear
Help me walk through the storm
