Poem: Laying My Heart Bare

I am
Doing what I fear most
Laying my heart bare
Telling her
What I’ve longed to say
My fear is shouting
“Don’t do it, you fool
Pain is all that you will get
And that is if it goes well”
A deeper voice reassures
With hand  firmly on my shoulder
“This is what you must do
Face your fear
And trust in me and her”
So I walk into the arena
With head held high
Forcing me to have no choice
Filled with more fear
Than I have e’er known before
I prepare my heart as best I can
To take the greatest leap of faith
That I have ever done
I know not what she will answer
I know not if it is the right thing
All I know is this:
It is what I must do
And so it will be done
