Poem: What Lies Ahead

As I walked
In quiet communion
I asked the Lord
What lay ahead for me
“You will face great pain”
The Lord answered quietly
“And great troubles
A hard road is meant for you
A road with few signposts
And oft you will be lost and confused
Sacrifices you will be asked to make
A price to pay
Few will understand
But do not despair
There is light and love
On the road ahead
The price you pay
For having sworn your oath
Will be balanced by
The good you do
Because you pay the price
Others won’t have too
Because you do what you must
What is right
What you swore to do
You will be a light in the world
And, in time
You’ll be allowed to rest
