Poem: Naked

I’ve always enjoyed
Being naked.
I do not refer
Solely to sexy time
Though I enjoy that too.
No
I’m talking about
Sitting at home
Reading a book
Watching TV
Sleeping in bed
Playing a game
Working out.
Everything
Everyday.
I don’t know
Why this is
Why I just love
To get nude.
Maybe
It’s because
As an early psych report
Attested
Choosing clothes
Caused me
Incapacitating anxiety
Before the age of 9.
Maybe
It’s because
I value honesty
So much
And there’s something
Inherently honest
About nudity.
Maybe
It’s because
I’m so in pain
So much of the time
That standing naked
With my imperfect body
Is an act of defiance
To the world
And its judgment.
When I say
I love being naked
There’s usually
An awkward laugh
Or silent judgment
Which drives me insane.
I have no patience
For enforced modesty.
And I have to ask
What more sign do you need
Of a broken culture
Than one
Where a woman’s nipple
Or a man’s penis
Ensure an R-rating
While violent confrontation
Or mass slaughter
Is glorified
Before the age of 6.
I think
I love being nude
Because God gave us bodies
Physical bodies:
To live in
To work in
To play in
To be in.
And every physical body
Has something
Beautiful about it
If only you look for it.
And I know no better way
To love my body
Than to show that I am unashamed
Calmly and confidently
Beautifully naked.
So do with your body
As you will
And I’ll do with my body
As I feel best.
