Poem: Dark Forest

These past few months
I’ve been wandering
Through a dark forest
No idea
Which path to take.
There have been nights
I’ve shuddered in the cold
Sheltered
From stormy gales .
There have been days
I’ve seen the sun
Shining through the leaves.
I’ve found glades
To see the sky
Sometimes blue and bright
Sometimes full of stars.
These past few days
The forest has grown darker
And there have been times
I’ve only wanted to go home
To give up.
I have cried out
In the depths of despair
In my direst extremity
To the Lord.
She answers me,
“Do as you have always done.
Trust your feelings.
Be and do.”
So I follow Her advice.
I find a curious thing:
Though the forest
Is dark
And full of dangers
I would not trade
The time I’ve spent
Beneath its canopy
For anything.
So I will continue
Wandering through
This dark forest
Feeling my way
To where
I’m meant to be.
