Poem: What I Do For A Living

People always ask me
What I do for a living.
Wanting an answer
They can understand
Something defined
By wealth and stability
By age-old understanding.
So I say to them
“I’m setting up my own business
Doing office work from home”.
But if I am honest
That is work more than living
Leading me towards death
Not life giving.
I yearn to say
I am
A Tai Chi practitioner,
Christian mystic ,
Swimmer, runner, skier
Poet and volunteer.
Uncle, brother, son
Friend and cousin
Reader and dreamer.
This
This is what I really
Do for a living.
