Poem: Beware

I read the news
Again today.
Frustration filled me
Righteous anger.
I plead my heart out
To the Lord
Who gave to me
These words of comfort:
“Beware to those
Who seek to rule
Through fear and hate.
These are poor
Methods to employ
Control they grant
In time quite short
Yet an unstable base
They are.
Do not be surprised
When the house
Built on fear and hate
Crumbles in the storm.
Beware to those
Who prize money
Above all else
For fortune is a fickle thing
And only keeps loyal to you
Those who can be bought.
Do not be surprised
When they turn
To one who can offer more
Leaving you
Standing on your own.
Beware to those
Who keep the gates
Strive to keep
Their domains
As they wish.
For gates blind
The ones who hide
Behind their walls
And no gate
Can stand forever.
Do not be surprised
When your gates fall
And all sorts
Come pouring through.
For love is stronger
Than fear and hate;
Love is far more valuable
Than any coin
And longer lasting;
Love will not be stopped
By gates or walls
But will pour through
Tear down divisions.
God’s justice
And the flow of time
Will tear down
All the people
Who would seek
To rule others.
All tyrants will meet
Their Maker in the end.
God’s love will build
And grow
Until the whole Earth
Overflows with
Life and love.”
