Poem: Ode To Dylan

We laid you to rest today
My old friend.
Still can’t quite comprehend
The violence of your end
The utter unfairness of it all.
I know we’ve walked
Different roads of late
Haven’t crossed paths in years.
Still I took comfort
Knowing you were out there.
I shall never forget
The times we shared.
The role you played.
The support you gave.
The lessons you taught
All when I most needed.
I was alone
When I met you.
You were my sole friend
In a time of great need.
You encouraged me
To love my body
To take care of it
At a time when I
Felt it was my enemy.
You shared with me
Your love of music
Your fun-loving attitude.
You taught me much
About how to be a man.
Encouraged me
To be true to myself
Stand up for what is right
And fight for what I believe in.
You watered the seeds
Of confidence
Of potential
Which have now borne fruit .
I miss you
My old friend.
Godspeed Dylan.
We’ll drink together
Down the road
In the days and nights
We can barely imagine.
