Poem: Lost In The Dark

I am lost
On a stormy sea
Barely afloat.
Storms rage
Wind howls
Cold and cruel
Lost in the dark.

All this long year
I have been fighting
Desperately trying
To stand firm.
All this long year
My strength has been ebbing
I have shed many a tear.

As days grew darker
And the world turned colder
The blows kept on coming
Relentless non-stopping.
‘Til I was drowning
In grief-stricken water
Black with despair.

Yet through all the storms raging
All the heart breaking
Glimpses of light shone through.
The people who love me
The God who supports me
Guides me and shows me the way.
And though that light
Was hard to see
It kept me swimming
In the right direction.

I walk now
In predawn promise.
Muscles weakened
From storm-strong seas.
I draw on love
Faith, hope, and pain
To keep me walking
‘Til dawn comes again.
