Poem 243

The Best

I am not
The best at anything.
Not swimming or running
Skiing or Tai Chi.
I am not
Top of my field
Nor top of my class.
I am no expert
No guru.
God knows
Most days
I struggle to survive
Let alone live.
Yet I have a mission
A God given purpose
To keep on walking
To keep on striving
Keep on breathing.
Show the world
Through constant struggle
The meaning of persistence.
I may not be the best
At anything
But I’ll damn well be
The best man I can be.
