Poem: Heartbreak And Betrayal

I am walking
A lonely road.
My heart
Is clenched
Full of pain
Of ashes
Of despair.
Gut is clenched
Tied in knots
Heartbreak and betrayal
Loss of life
World turned upside down.
This has been
My lot of late
I long for exile
My greatest wish
Is to return home.
If only
I could lay down
This weary load.
Yet I know
I can’t.
Despite the darkness
Closing in
Despite evil
Made manifest
My inner light
Refuses to go out.
I hold onto hope
Despite all reason
My faith remains
Strong and sure.
“O Lord,”
I cry,
“Make harmony out of chaos
Beauty out of dust.
Bring healing
Before it’s too late.”
