Poem: Dishonest Silence

I’m being torn apart
Hiding my identity
Keeping secret my beliefs.
Constantly biting my tongue
In interests of peace.
Dishonesty I’m practicing
Is haunting my sleep.
Terror of truth
Is spawning nightmares.
What can I do
To this conflict?
What is right
To work for peace by surrendering speech?
Or to speak my truth
Risk consequences unforeseen?
To speak
Or not to speak?
That is my question
In these days of polar opposition.
