Poem: Take Back The Night 2019

We meet at the park
Brought together
By hope and rage
By grief and love.
Survivors and allies
Join together
To take back the night.
We march through the street
Hundreds strong.
People watch.
People glare.
People cheer.
Cars honk
Drivers tap their fingers.
We chant
We march.
Awareness spreads
Notice is taken.
We sit in a bar
As stories are told
Poems are read
Music is sung.
Laughter and tears
Flow and meld.
Hope blooms
In my bosom.
I feel connected
To all in that room.
For once
I feel that we can indeed
Change the world.
So we can all be
United in love
And free in the night.
