Poem: Great Change

I watch the news
I read the books
I see the signs.
Everything tells me
Of disaster in the offing.
I must grow.
I must change.
I must fight
Before all is lost.
Yet I feel
I am not good enough.
The burden is too heavy
I cannot be
The man I think I must be
To avert disaster.
I cry out to the Lord
In despair and frustration.
The Lord answers me,
“You are not alone
You don’t need to do it all.
Be who you are.
Trust in me
To make harmony out of chaos
Unity out of diversity.
Great change
Out of countless small acts
By all the members of my Body.”
