Poem: On COVID

A virus sweeps
Over the globe.
Around the world
We huddle in our homes.
Saving lives
By staying inside.
Every time we venture out
We are filled with fear.
The TV and the Internet
Filled with speculation
Paint a grim picture.
Sorrow and despair
Rage and fear
These abound in excess.
Ignorance and callousness
Bringing death and strife.
Yet we also hear
Tales of courage
Compassion
Hope
Faith
And love.
I feel the loneliness
The uncertainty eats at me.
I know not
How long I can
Hold on
Before I crash and burn.
But somehow I do.
I choose hope.
I choose faith.
I practice love.
It is hard
To sit and wait
Uncertain for how long.
Yet we can do it!
We will stumble.
We will fall.
We will rise again.
Know this
Beloved ones:
We are not alone.
God is with us
In the dark
And promises
Light will come again.
