Poem: Confronting Fear

Fear
Is an old companion.
When I was young
It ruled me
In ways obvious
And hidden.
I confronted it
And I grew.
Overcame many of my fears
Swore never to concede again.
Yet fear is tricky
Subtle and ever present.
New fears arrive
Old fears return.
The test
Is to not give up
Hold onto hope
Resist the slide
Into anger and hate and despair.
My destiny
The destiny of all who serve the Light
Is to confront fear.
Face what scares me
Lean into what I’d rather run from.
Learn how hope
Love and faith
Grant me the strength
To face my fears
And let them go.
Only by doing so
Can I become the person
I was always meant to be.
