Poem: Bury My Heart

I picked up a shovel
Dug myself a hole
Took my heart from my chest
Threw it in the ground.
Covered it with dirt
Covered it with stone
Tried to bury deep
My love for you.
Yet rays shone through
Like shoots sprouting out of ground.
The Lord said to me:
“Let it out.
Let it flow.
Let your love flow.
Only then
Can you truly let her go.”
So I picked up that shovel
Dug up that hole
Placed my heart back in my chest.
Pain filled my being
Love did too.
My heart was open once again
Peace flowed through me.
I started walking on.
