Poem: Goodbye Grey One

On the day you died
Fell asleep
And left your body
It rained
All day long
And all night.
I thought this fitting
As my life
Was suddenly
Much emptier
Much darker.
We knew this time was coming
You had a good long run.
When you started
Struggling to breath
Months ago
My mind filled
With all the times shared:
Memories made;
Stories created;
Sometimes frustrating;
Sometimes frightening;
Sometimes fun;
Always filled with love.
You were there for me
When I felt most alone.
Your innocence
Comforted me
When nothing else could.
I felt a bond with you
Deep and true.
So
It is with heavy heart
I say, “Goodbye, my love”.
Godspeed to you
Miss Mew.
I’ll see you down the road.
In your absence
I know not what I’ll do
Find someone
I hope
To remind me of the light.
To comfort me
And hold me.
To love me.
To help me know
That there’s more to life
Than struggle
Darkness and pain.
Oh Mew!
I miss you.
Oh God!
Take good care of her
Until I join you both
A little down the road.

Author’s Note: This poem was written in memoriam of my cat, Miss Mew.
