Poem: Fleeing From Demons

As the hours
Fly by
Turn into days
I feel the pressure build
Need mounting
Stress needing release.
So I run
Through the night
Swim
Through the day
Practice Tai Chi
‘Til sweat pours
Body aches
Mind clears.
Trying to outrun
Outswim
Out fight
My demons.
It’s a fool’s game
I know
They always catch me
In the end.
But I keep striving
Hoping against all reason
That the effort
Will yield results
Greater than the sum.
That I will transform
Into the man
I’m meant to be.
