Poem: Spring 2021

As evening draws near
I walk the path
Heavy weight on my shoulders
Gut clenched
Tears pricking at my eyes.
People all around
Clustered in group
Laughing and chatting.
I walk alone.
Loneliness rises
Threatens to drown me
In dark despair.
I’m tired of being alone.
Longing for love:
To be reminded of
Light and life;
To find relief
From constant struggle.
I look ahead
See no end to his pain.
Cry out the Lord
For release from this burden.
The Spirit whispers to me
Reminds me gently
That the future is in in motion.
I resolve once again
To my best now;
To focus in the present
Trusting in the Spirit
To guide my path
To the love and life I long for.
