Poem: Escaping Demons

I run through the night
My feet pound the ground
My pulse beats
And breath quickens
The demons bite at my heels.
I swim through the water
Focus on breath after breath
Stroke after stroke
The demons swim behind me.
I move in ancient patterns
As I practice my Tai Chi
Sweat covers my body
Energy flows through me
The demons lurk just out of sight.
I do my best
Use all my means
To escape my demons
Yet they cling stubbornly
In my heart and mind.
I can still them for a time
But never fully leave them
For they are a part of me
Intrinsic and inseparable.
Only by embracing them
Can I truly let them go.
