Poem: Be Silent No More

I walk through the night
Running from demons
Inside my head.
Hiding
From pain and shame.
I’ve been biting my tongue
Too often
These past few months.
Can’t take it anymore
Can’t keep silent
When I disagree.
Hiding too much of myself
In my own home.
I turn to the Lord
Ask Her for guidance.
She answers me
“Speak up.
Speak up now
Be silent no more.
You focus too much
On “Live peaceably with others”.
Think back to the Scriptures
Christ and the apostles
You will see
Peace does not equal silence.
They always spoke
Loud and proud
What they believed
Disagreed and argued
With others quite often.
You too
Speak up often.
You show the darkest parts
Of who you are
Because you want people to see
People like you;
Broken and flawed:
So they can understand others.
So they can know
They are not alone.
You are open online
Open in person
With family and friends.
Only in your home
Do you keep silent.
So trust me, my child
Trust yourself.
Be silent no more”.
So I keep walking
I feel more free and clear.
Filled with the Spirit
Determined
To be silent no more.
