Poem: Across The Divide

When minds are closed;
When hearts are full
Of fear and hate;
When ignorance
Reigns supreme;
How do you reach them?
How do you open
Minds and hearts?
How do you
Teach empathy?
Instill compassion?
“Please Lord,”
I cry,
“Give me the words to speak
The stories to tell
To spread love.
Grant me
Oh Lord
The strength to overcome.
The patience
To persevere.
Help me
Most of all
To hold onto hope
That I can reach them.
That all my efforts
Are not in vain.
That I can get
Across the divide.
