Poem: Dance With The Dark

“Slay the dragon”
They say to me
“Push on through”
“Change your thoughts”.
I want to rage;
I want to scream;
I want to laugh;
I want to cry.
How do I explain?
Every darkness is unique.
Mine
You cannot outthink
It poisons every thought
Erodes every defense
Slips through
The smallest crack.
You cannot overpower
It only grows stronger.
Brute strength
Is of the dark anyway.
The only thing
That works against
Darkness mine
Is to embrace it.
Wrap it in your arms
Say,
“I love you.
I accept you.
You are part of me
Intrinsic, inseparable.
Let’s dance.”
Dance with the dark
I lead.
For dark knows only dark
While I know the light
And the dark.
We dance
Each responding to the other.
I cannot dance alone.
Slay the dragon?
Nay.
But tame the dragon?
That can be done.
Tamed
But always dangerous.
Loved
But always a risk.
Constant attention
Always necessary.
The darkness and I
Dance eternally.
