Poem: 27 Going On 28

I walk through the park
Filled with gratitude.
I see how far I’ve come
This past year.
I see how far
I still have to go.
I have become
The leader I hoped to be.
The leader
My mentors saw in me.
I am healthier
Than I’ve ever been.
In control
I have found
A community
To call home.
My mind is clearer
Than it’s ever been.
I know myself
And even love myself
More than I ever
Thought possible.
Yet income
Is not yet
Steady and secure.
Romantic relations
Remain elusive.
Where I live
Is not a home.
Yet I trust the Spirit
She has brought me
This far.
Taught me this much.
She will guide me on
To even better days.
